Pirates Option Struggling Quinn Priester to Indy; Recall Yohan Ramirez

After his struggles continued in another tough start on Monday night against the New York Mets at Citi Field, the Pittsburgh Pirates have optioned rookie right-hander Quinn Priester to Triple-A Indianapolis.

To take his place on the active roster, the Pirates have recalled reliever Yohan Ramirez to reinforce their bullpen.

In six starts since getting called up from Indianapolis, Priester has gone 2-2 with a 9.10 ERA. In 28.2 innings, he’s allowed 37 hits (seven home runs), walked 18 and struck out 23. Opponents have posted a .311 batting average against along with a .997 OPS.

On Monday against the Mets, Priester allowed six runs in 5.0 innings while throwing a career-high 102 pitches.

According to MLB Pipeline, Priester is considered the Pirates’ sixth-best prospect and No. 99 overall.

For Ramirez, this will be his third stint with the Pirates this season.

In 23 appearances, the right-hander has gone 1-0 with a 4.25 ERA. In his 29.2 innings, Ramirez has walked 13 and struck out 25.

He’s made 16 appearances (one start) with Indianapolis this season and has gone 1-1 with a 4.87 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 20.1 innings pitched.
