New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson is as competitive as they come. He desperately wants to help his team win games, but that didn’t occur as much during the 2023 season as anyone would have hoped.
The Jets capped their campaign off with a victory over the New England Patriots in Week 18, snapping a 15-game losing streak to their AFC East rivals. While that was a reason for some people to celebrate, it certainly wasn’t enough for Wilson to be happy about.
On Monday, Wilson revealed how he felt about his second season in the NFL. He accomplished some individual success, catching 80+ passes and breaking the 1,000-yard mark for the second time in as many seasons. Alas, Wilson revealed that he felt this year was a disastrous one.
“I hear that I had a good year, but it was the worst season of my life. Thank you, but that’s the reality of it,” Wilson said to the media.

Given the lack of team success in two seasons, there is some worry that Wilson will not want to commit to the Jets long-term. While he is under contract for at least two more seasons, three if you count his fifth-year option, the fact that is something people are already worried about is not a good sign.
In addition to his comments about it being the worst year of his life, Wilson touched on what he feels the team could do to improve. He was asked what the Jets can change from a schematic and approach standpoint and delivered a very detailed answer.
“What happened this season can’t happen again…It’s got to be better. We’ve got to make adjustments in the game. We’ve got to do things to counter what we’re getting and be able to put points on the board because honestly, in the two years I’ve been here, it’s been tough. It’s been tough going. Football hasn’t been this hard as far as offense. I watch it on the sideline and it doesn’t look that hard for the other team.
“We’ve got to figure something out to get it rolling, no matter who’s slinging it. I know Aaron will be an offense in itself because that’s just what he brings to the table … He’s special, man. I pray that everyone in the world gets to see that next year. But, yeah, what happened this year can’t happen again,” said Wilson.
Interesting and honest response from Garrett Wilson, who was asked if there needs to be changes on offense from a schematic/approach standpoint:

Things could quickly turn around with Aaron Rodgers healthy and leading the offense. Even if he isn’t capable of playing at an MVP level any longer, he will be a massive improvement from what the Jets received at the quarterback position this season.
If Rodgers isn’t able to provide the team with some magic, things could get very ugly for the Jets the following offseason. They have gone all-in on Rodgers and if they cannot find success on the field in 2024, some major changes will be on the horizon.
