Raiders, Cody Whitehair Agree to One-Year Deal
Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports

Former Pro Bowl guard Cody Whitehair is reuniting with his former offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, this time with the Las Vegas Raiders. Whitehair, who earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2018 while playing for the Chicago Bears, has agreed to a one-year deal with the Raiders. This move comes two months after Getsy joined the Raiders as their offensive coordinator.

The Raiders are in need of a new player for the right guard position. Whitehair, familiar with Getsy’s strategy, is expected to seamlessly fit in, despite having started only three games at that position throughout his eight-year career.

Raiders’ Offensive Line Boost

Whitehair, 31, brings a wealth of experience to the Raiders. He has played in 124 games with 118 starts, starting 61 games at center and 54 games at left guard.

The Raiders boast three returning starters on the offensive line. This includes: left tackle Kolton Miller, left guard Dylan Parham, and center Andre James.

Excitement Among Raiders

James said he was “super excited” to add Whitehair to the offensive line, especially given his familiarity with Getsy’s system.

“It’s nice having a vet like that come in and [with] a lot of the experience that he have. It’s only just going to benefit the whole offensive room,” James said.

“I was just talking with him today, about some of the schemes and some of the things that [the Bears] ran. It’s always helpful having a guy who’s familiar with the offense, familiar with the scheme and the system, especially there in the offensive line room. Just to kind of pick his brain and just kind get some of the keys and some of the information that he’s got for a long time.”

Transition to the Raiders

Whitehair was released by the Bears on Feb. 15, allowing the team to create salary cap space. His arrival at the Raiders marks a new chapter in his NFL journey.
